Manic Monday

We all have them, from Sunday blues at 5 pm to those Meeting Mondays as I call them. Don’t get me wrong most of them are not manic for the most part (partially due to my mindful mornings). I just couldn’t pass up the play on a favorite of mine growing up when I didn’t understand the lyrics so eloquently written and sang by one of my 80’s favorite bands The Bangles. I tend to forget how amazing a dance party can lift your spirits. Back in the day my girls and I use to turn up the jams and have a dance party in the car. Responsibly, of course, with full-on freestyles at the stoplights. So, when you do have one of those manic Mondays you might as well end the day right with none other than a Dance Party!!!

My personal favorite I used to do was use it as a break in your day. I would encourage all of our team members to get up at 3 pm and have a dance party with me (ahhh those were fun times). I would take song recommendations/requests trying to avoid an HR issue (the not-so-fun part of being a manager) and we would get up to dance, stretch, get your eyes away from the screen and just get some blood flowing. I find I usually always have a dip in energy right around that time and getting moving always helped. Not to mention lifted spirits, encouraged team building as well as some good laughs along the way.

So girl put your records on and let’s dance. If you didn’t have a lovely day go ahead and dance yourself clean. If your manager was yelling heads will roll and all you could think was chill out. End your day dancing in the moonlight.

Sometimes I sing the words out loud (probably slightly off-key) and maybe this post will give you a few hints to my playlist. Give your brain a break and use some other senses. Close your eyes and move to the rhythm. Sing, because who cares? If you have kids get them in on the dance party. You’ll be gifting them with stress relief and coping methods for life. Side note, my playlist linked below is not all family-friendly. Sorry families, sometimes as we are all aware, a swear word can help relieve stress in the oddest of ways. Cheers and dance those blues away! Ready for my playlist? Check it out on Spotify here.
